Putin Follows Trump To China After Xi Warns “International Situation Is Fluid And Turbulent”

A global power shifting new Security Council (SC) report circulating in the Kremlin today first noting the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced: “At the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin will pay a state visit to China from May 19 to 20”, says this announcement came shortly after President Xi warned President Donald Trump: “Transformation not seen in a century is accelerating across the globe, and the international situation is fluid and turbulent”.

Following the Chinese Foreign Ministry announcement, this report notes, the Kremlin announced: “The Russian president has been invited to the country by his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping...During the trip, Putin and Xi are expected to discuss bilateral relations, ways to further deepen strategic interaction between Moscow and Beijing, as well as exchange views on key international and regional issues...The talks are set to conclude with a joint statement from the two leaders and the signing of various agreements between the Russian and Chinese governments”.

After President Trump concluded his visit to China with no signed agreements or joint statement with President Xi, this report continues, the official Chinese state media assessed: “President Donald Trump's visit to China may eventually be remembered as more than a diplomatic event or a high-level bilateral meeting...It could become a defining moment when the world's two largest powers finally began to understand a fundamental truth of the 21st century: Cooperation between Beijing and Washington is not optional; it's essential...The alternative is dangerous...History offers a simple lesson: When great powers lose the ability to cooperate, the entire world pays the price”.

As to why President Trump was unable to secure any signed agreements or joint statement during his China visit, this report details, Director Ekaterina Zaklyazminskaya of the Center for World Politics and Strategic Analysis at the Institute of China and Contemporary Asia explained: “There was no way to negotiate from a position of strength, as a visit by the Russian president was expected soon...It is difficult for the United States to corner China and dictate terms, as Russia acts as a strategic partner and a strategic rear for China in various geopolitical situations and periods of heightened tension”.

As for what is expected when President Putin meets President Xi next week, this report notes, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov most factually observed: “Russia will not be drawn into any triangulation attempts by the United States to pit Moscow and Beijing against one another:...I believe former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger once argued that Washington's ties with both Beijing and Moscow should be stronger than ties between Beijing and Moscow themselves...The United States and colonial powers have long followed this divide and conquer strategy, which survives to this day in Western policy...But that's not how we operate, that's not how China operates”.

Now openly challenging the Western colonial divide and conquer strategy against Russia and China, this report concludes, is President Trump, about whom Axios previously warned: “President Trump's first term opened the age of "Great Power Competition" with China and Russia...His second is actively working to end it...For the past decade, Washington has operated on the bipartisan consensus that China seeks to overtake the United States, Russia seeks to undermine it, and reinforcing alliances in Europe and Asia is key to winning the 21st century...Trump is challenging that entire foundation, envisioning a new world order where great powers cut deals — and look the other way when needed — rather than restrain each other's ambitions”.
