A thought-provoking new Security Council (SC) report circulating in the Kremlin today first noting President Putin told Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi during their meeting yesterday: “The people of Iran are fighting bravely and heroically for their sovereignty”, says he then assessed: “Previous approaches and well-established norms and rules of business and international relations have been gradually slowing down, including because of actions by Western countries which are losing their leadership roles, giving way to new growth centers, to the Global South”.
During the meeting between President Putin and Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi yesterday, this report notes, the New York Times revealed: “President Trump has told advisers he is not satisfied with Iran’s latest proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end the war...It is not clear precisely why Mr. Trump is not satisfied with the proposal...The White House declined to comment on Mr. Trump’s thinking”—world-renowned retired CIA analyst Larry Johnson then factually documented in his report “Iranian Leaders Are Not Divided. The Trump Administration Is” that Iran is now led by top seasoned combat leaders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, who have long opposed the religious edict forbidding nuclear weapons—and is fact that caused world-renowned American Middle East analyst Aaron David Miller to warn: “Trump was looking for an Iranian Delcy Rodriguez...More likely, he's going to end up with an Iranian Kim Jong Un”.
After watching Israel drag President Donald Trump into a disastrous war whose end result could create a formidable Iranian Kim Jong Un, instead of a cowed and compliant leader like Venezuelan President Delcy Rodriguez, this report continues, it caused German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to declare yesterday: “The Americans clearly have no strategy...An entire nation is being humiliated by the Iranian leadership, especially by these so-called Revolutionary Guards...And so I hope that this ends as quickly as possible”—and was a hope about the war quickly ending dashed by the news today: “Oil prices extended gains in Asian trade on Tuesday, with Brent Crude topping $111 per barrel, as the Strait of Hormuz remains inaccessible for more than eight weeks and the U.S.-Iran talks are nowhere near resumption”.
Following Secretary of State Marco Rubio declaring over the weekend that Iran closing the Strait of Hormuz “was the equivalent of an economic nuclear weapon that they’re trying to use against the world”, this report details, Deputy Director Alexander Yakovenko of Rossiya Segodnya assessed: “By closing the Strait of Hormuz — what many call Iran’s nuclear bomb without radiation — Tehran now has the ability to trigger a global recession with catastrophic consequences for the US economy and potentially undermine the petrodollar order itself...Washington now faces a stark choice: launch a second round of strikes on Iran—which Tehran seems prepared for and may even welcome, believing force alone can end the conflict decisively—or quietly accept Iranian terms, retreat from the region under political cover, and refocus on the MAGA base before the November midterms...Either way, Iran would keep control over the rules governing Hormuz”.
For any hope President Trump had that the Strait of Hormuz would be fully operating before the midterm election and lower fuel prices, this report concludes, CEO Jim Fitterling of the American global industrial giant Dow Chemical Company warned last week: “Some scenario planning that we did said that even if the straits were to reopen today, just to clear the logistics logjam, is going to take 275 days, maybe more now”—a warning joined with news today: “The law on the new order of passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be adopted immediately after the resumption of the work of the Iranian parliament”—and while the Strait of Hormuz remains closed by Iran and blockaded by the United States, today it sees Iran increasing imports through its alternative route on the Caspian Sea, which is under the full protection of the Russian Federation, its military forces and nuclear weapons.
