A foreboding new Security Council (SC) report circulating in the Kremlin today first noting President Donald Trump is reportedly ready to declare an end to hostilities against Iran, even if Tehran does not formally agree to Washington's demands, says he also confusingly declared yesterday: “The Iranian leaders are all gone...Nobody knows who to talk to...But we're actually talking to the right people, and they want to make a deal so badly and we'll see what happens...We are in negotiations right now, they're doing it along with Marco, JD, we have a number of people doing it”—a confusing declaration followed by Pakistani officials claiming that Iranian authorities have received a 15-point proposal from the United States to reach a ceasefire in the conflict.
Earlier today, this report notes, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei declared without any confusion: “There’s no talks or negotiations between Iran and the United States, as there has not been such a negotiation for the past 25 days of their illegal war against Iran...We’ve had a very catastrophic experience, I should say, of United States diplomacy...We were attacked two times within a span of nine months when we were in the middle of a negotiating process to resolve the nuclear issue...So this was a betrayal of diplomacy”.
Also earlier today, this report continues, Iran launched its “80th wave” of missile and drones strikes against American and Israeli targets, after which Iranian military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Ebrahim Zolfaqari defiantly proclaimed: “If the self-proclaimed superpower of the world could have escaped this predicament, it would have done so by now...Do not call your defeat an agreement...The era of your promises is over...Today, there are only two fronts in the world: truth and falsehood...And every freedom-seeking pursuer of truth will not be deceived by your media waves...Our first and last word from day one has been, is, and will be: someone like us will not come to terms with someone like you—not now, and not ever”.
Along with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier factually declaring that the American-Israeli war on Iran is “a breach of international law” and truthfully assessing that the imminent Iranian threat which started the war “did not hold water”, this report details, Western experts observed about true cause of the war: “Great-power competition has returned to basics: who controls the physical resources that modern economies and militaries run on...From China’s restrictions on rare earths and critical minerals supply to the de facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz, policymakers and analysts began to realize that the control of oil, critical minerals, rare earths, and magnets is as important as building and maintaining stockpiles of advanced weapons...It also became clear that without these resources, defense and military capabilities could be weakened...The actual arms race goes hand in hand with the new battle for the resources that underpin economic, manufacturing, and advanced military development”.
Examples of the great-power competition for resources causing major wars to erupt all across the world, this report notes, just today includes the European Union putting its plans on hold for a complete ban on Russian oil imports—the United States threatening the European Union to sign a trade deal or risk losing favorable access to American energy—Indian refiners just struck deals for the purchase of some 60 million barrels of Russian crude oil, to be delivered in April—the United States was just warned it could have only weeks or months of certain rare-earth inventories available for defense manufacturing if supply disruptions deepen—and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced that Hungary will gradually halt natural gas deliveries to Ukraine until Kiev restores the flow of Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline.
With Russia possessing the largest nuclear weapons arsenal in the world, this report concludes, President Putin signed a decree on 2 February 2010 to establish the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund think tank, whose experts advise the Kremlin on when and if nuclear weapons should be used—and after meeting with the Gorchakov Fund’s board of trustees yesterday to assess the great-power competition causing resource wars to erupt all around the world, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov gravely warned: “Some specialists, including those in Russia who study the history of international relations, have already begun to describe and characterize these events as World War III”.
