A forewarning new Security Council (SC) report circulating in the Kremlin today first noting top President Donald Trump official Special Envoy Jeff Landry proclaimed: “Denmark is occupying Greenland in violation of United Nations rules”, says Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning then slammed President Trump for absurdly claiming Russia and China are trying to take over Greenland: “Beijing does not support the United States using China or Russia as pretexts for its own self-interest”, and Chairman Rasmus Jarlov of the Denmark Parliamentary Defense Committee most factually declared to President Trump: “I am head of the defense committee in Denmark...I get all relevant information about it...I can assure you that your fantasies about a big threat from China and Russia against Greenland are delusional...You are the threat...Not them”.
Along with weighing military force so he can acquire Greenland to protect it from an imaginary Russia-China threat, this report notes, President Trump posted the proclamation on Sunday: “There will be no more oil or money going to Cuba — zero”—a proclamation followed by the news: “Despite President Trump's social media pronouncement, the current U.S. policy is to allow Mexico to continue to provide oil to Cuba according to Energy Secretary Chris Wright and another U.S. official”.
As the list continues to grow of countries President Trump has issued threats against, this report continues, Russian Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia warned the United Nations Security Council yesterday: “Until the Kiev ringleader comes to his senses and agrees to realistic terms for negotiations, we will continue solving the problems by military means...He was warned long ago, and the conditions for negotiations will only get worse for him with each day he squanders”—a warning joined by President Olena Pavlenkoof the Kyiv-based energy-focused think tank DiXi Group grimly revealing about the Russian missile strikes on 9 January: “Maybe this wasn't the worst attack, but this is the worst impact we've seen...Compared to all previous winters, the situation now is the worst”—and the Ukrainian state-owned grid operator Ukrenergo grimly revealed today: “Around 70% of Kyiv is without electricity after yet another Russian mass strike overnight on 13 January”.
With the Russia-Ukraine conflict having just entered its 1,419th day, which means it has officially surpassed the entirety of the historic Soviet campaign against invading Nazi Germany, which lasted 1,418 days from June 1941 to May 1945, this report details, world-renowned British historian Lord Robert Skidelsky assessed as to why the conflict has lasted so long: “Of the two reasons for escalation, Europe’s intervention was decisive...It was Europe’s promise to supply Ukraine with “whatever it takes”, backed by growing tangible support, which turned a limited operation into a full-scale war, at the cost of several hundred thousand lives...Although the “red lines” Russia laid down have changed with the progress of the war, Russia’s nuclear posture has consistently communicated one message: Ukraine matters, NATO intervention is unacceptable, and state survival is non-negotiable...Everything else—however rhetorically heated—remains below the nuclear threshold”.
Most certainly raising the “nuclear threshold” of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, however, this report notes, was Secretary of State Marco Rubio truthfully admitting: “It’s a proxy war between nuclear powers, the United States helping Ukraine, and Russia”—an admission of truth joined by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth proclaiming to American defense companies yesterday: “We are rebuilding the arsenal of freedom...We had a historic budget last year, and I don’t know if you saw, the president announced the goal of $1.5 trillion for our national defense budget in 2027...That is a message to the world...President Trump’s deadly serious about this...He feels the urgency of the moment, and so do I”.
While President Trump is “deadly serious” about his proxy war against Russia, building up American military power and threatening more war against other nations, this report continues, he is about to slam into the gravest of realities: “Even at the height of their Cold War nuclear rivalry, the United States and the Soviet Union thrashed out a series of treaties to keep the arms race from spiralling out of control...Though they agreed on little else, leaders in Moscow and Washington saw value in talks - from 1969 until long after the Soviet collapse in 1991 - to create a stable and predictable framework limiting the size of their nuclear arsenals...Now the last U.S.-Russia nuclear treaty, New START, is just weeks away from expiring on February 5, and what comes next is uncertain”.
Joining the end of the last nuclear arms treaty that prevented proxy wars like Vietnam and Afghanistan from spiraling out of control into total global nuclear war, this report concludes, it was warningly just observed: “For most of us, Friday, February 6, 2026, is likely to feel no different than Thursday, February 5th...It will be a work or school day for many of us...It might involve shopping for the weekend or an evening get-together with friends, or any of the other mundane tasks of life...But from a world-historical perspective, that day will represent a dramatic turning point, with far-reaching and potentially catastrophic consequences...For the first time in 54 years, the world’s two major nuclear-weapons powers, Russia and the United States, will not be bound by any arms-control treaties and so will be legally free to cram their nuclear arsenals with as many new warheads as they wish — a step both sides appear poised to take”.
