Second Reconstruction Descends Upon
American South As
By: L.C. McKinney, Sons of Confederate

June 27, 2015
There are no better words to describe what is
currently happening to the South, its people, and its heritage then this June
19th quote by the former New York Times and Detroit Free Press reporter Joe
Lapointe, who in his editorial titled It’s
Time to Burn the Confederate Flag plainly stated: “Although the Confederate states lost, they were never punished
enough…”
To how anyone today, especially a reporter,
can be so ignorant of not only the South, but our Nation’s history too,
especially 150 years after the ending of Civil War, is nearly beyond
comprehension.
Sadly though, and as evidenced by the now
daily assaults against Southern Heritage, the view point of Mr. Lapointe, and
others like him, have gained the ascendency in our national discourse, in spite
of the overwhelming evidence that not only was the South defeated in the Civil
War, it was left in complete and total ruin…and if that wasn’t “punishment” then this word needs another
definition.
One of the best examples one can read of this
cataclysmic defeat was written in 2009 by the prestigious American historian,
and current President of Harvard University, Catharine Drew Gilpin Faust,
who in her book titled This
Republic of Suffering: Death and the American Civil War wrote: “If you extrapolated Southern losses into
our current American population, the war would cost the lives of a staggering 9
million men, with at least an equivalent number injured.”
One of the main causes
leading to this staggering loss of life, and as every Southern knows all too
well, was a new to then modern times war tactic labeled “total war.”
Total war is defined as
warfare that includes any and all civilian-associated resources and
infrastructure as legitimate military targets, and justifies using weapons and
tactics that result in significant civilian or other non-combatant casualties
and was authorized to be used against the South in 1864 by President Abraham
Lincoln and was militarily designated in two parts, The
Atlanta Campaign and Sherman's
March to the Sea.
There were two main reasons
for these particular campaigns. The first was strategic. At the time,
The second reason was
political. The 1864 presidential election was coming around and it did not
appear that President Lincoln would have a second term. His opponent was
General George B. McClellan whom
The support of the war was
minimal to nonexistent at that point in the North, but by General Sherman
capturing
Both General Grant and
President Lincoln were very nervous and on-the-fence about General Sherman's “final solution” plan for the South, but
eventually, General Grant's trust and friendship with Sherman prevailed and his
idea was approved by President Lincoln.
General Sherman’s Army, in
total, wrecked 300 miles of railroad and numerous bridges and miles of
telegraph lines. It seized 5,000 horses, 4,000 mules, and 13,000 head of
cattle. It confiscated 9.5 million pounds of corn and 10.5 million pounds of
fodder, and destroyed uncounted cotton gins and mills.
Even in today’s world,
Victor Hanson, a visiting professor at the U.S. Naval Academy, defends and
makes excuses for President Lincoln’s intentional waging of total war on
Southern civilians that included
General Sherman’s bombing, pillaging and plundering of our cities and towns,
the burning of our homes, total destruction of farms and livestock, gang rape,
and the killing of thousands, including women and children of all races.
Not just the South would
face the wrath of General Sherman’s total war tactics either, as immediately
after the Civil War he
singlehandedly lead a 25-year genocidal campaign against the Native peoples of
America he, likewise, called a “final
solution” to the “Indian problem.”
And 75 years later, one of
General Sherman’s greatest admirers, Adolph Hitler, initiated his own “total war” tactics against the world
and devised his own “final solution” for
the Jewish peoples of Europe.
General Sherman himself, as history
well documents, most certainly did not believe that “each man is as good as another.”
For example, in 1862, General Sherman was bothered that “the country” was “swarming with dishonest Jews.”
He then got his close friend, General Grant, to expel
all Jews from his army.
As the late historian Michal
Fellman wrote in his definitive biography, Citizen
Sherman:: A Life of William Tecumseh Sherman: “On December 17, 1862, Grant…, like a medieval monarch . . . expelled
the Jews, as a class from his department.”
Fellman further wrote, and
extensively documented, that to General Sherman, the Jews were “like niggers” and “like greasers (Mexicans) or Indians” in that they were “classes or races permanently inferior to
his own.”
So enamored was Hitler of
General Sherman and his “total war” tactics,
and his “final solution” to these “inferior races”, history well records, Lia Mandelbaum,
writer for the Jewish Journal, in
her article Hitler’s
Inspiration and Guide: The Native American Holocaust writes:
“Hitler's concept of concentration camps as well as the
practicality of genocide owed much, so he claimed, to his studies of English
and
He was very interested in the way the Indian population had
rapidly declined due to epidemics and starvation when the
So remember, the “final solution” and “total war” tactics General Sherman
perfected against the Native peoples of America, and which Hitler emulated 75
years later, were first unleashed against the South!
Even when the Civil War ended…the
occupation of the South by the Union forces under General Sherman and General
Grant did not stop the horror our ancestors suffered…after all, they were
considered by our conquerors to be nothing more than an “inferior race” worthy only for exploitation and extermination.
Mass revenge executions of
our defeated soldiers, mass rape and wanton murder of our women, constant
destruction of our crops that led to mass starvation, all of these atrocities,
and more, were what the South endured during what is now called the
Reconstruction Period that lasted from 1865 to 1877.
And making this already
horrific situation even more intolerable were Union army orders forbidding the
vast majority of competent lawmakers to hold office. Instead, these Union forces forced to be
elected thousands of basically uneducated former slaves to rule over their
former “masters”, and the chaos this
caused to Southern society was incalculable.
So it was no wonder that
when Reconstruction ended, and in having to deal with a Southern society that
had endured “total war”, genocide and
more humiliations than any peoples should have had to endure for 12 long years
(1865-1877), the South began a process of enacting “by law” (“de jure”) segregation
polices.
But what the South was doing
by creating a “de jure”
segregationist society was nothing more than codifying into statutes exactly
what the North had already been doing with their informal (“de facto”) segregationist polices
since this country was founded.
Even after the Civil Rights Act
of 1964 effectively abolished the South’s “de jure” segregationist laws, even to this very day, the North’s “de facto” segregationist polices remain
firmly entrenched.
From housing to jobs, to
education and more, the North’s “de
facto” segregationist polices have done more to destroy African American
peoples in the past 150 years, since the ending of the Civil War, than anything
the South ever did…before or since.
After all, due to the Civil
War, and the Reconstruction Period that followed, the defeated Southern States
have remained to this day a mainly agrarian society whose majority populations
are comprised of poor blacks and whites alike.
What little industry the South did manage to build in the years
following World War II were then subsequently destroyed by NAFTA and other such
trade treaties enacted during these past 30 years…by the North.
And during the years when
the South’s “de jure” segregationist
polices were being fought against in what is now referred to as The
Civil Rights Era (1954-1968), the
Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) has documented 40
deaths of people who ranged in age from 11 to 66. Eight were white, and 32
were black. They came from all walks of life – students, farmers, ministers,
truck drivers, a homemaker and a Nobel laureate, Rev. Martin Luther King.
On the other hand, in the “de facto” segregationist North, the
massive
In fact, during the 1960’s
when the South was changing and adjusting to the abolishment of its “de jure” segregationist society, the
North’s “de facto” segregationist
societies continued on leading to the: Harlem Riot of 1964,
1 dead,118 injured, and 465 arrested… Watts (Los Angeles) Riots of
1965, 34 dead,
1,032 injured and 3,348 arrested…Cleveland Riots of 1966,
4 dead, 30 injured and 275 arrested…Detroit Riots of 1967,
43 dead, 1,189 injured and over
7,200 arrested…Newark Riots of 1968,
26 dead, 727 injured and 1,500 arrested…Chicago Riots of 1968,
11 dead, 138 injured and 1,500 arrested.
One of the most enduring
images and remembrances during this era of our common
And for that brutal assault
upon those innocent marchers the South has been rightly condemned…over, and
over, and over, and over, and over…
But the fact remains, aside
from the South NEVER
having experienced the race riots the North did during the Civil Rights Era…40
deaths in the South during this turbulent time, and as despicable as they were,
are nothing compared to the at least 119 dead, 3,234 injured and 14,288
arrested during this same time period in the North that clearly shows who has
to be rightly condemned for their racist and segregationist society.
We own no newspapers though,
or television networks…so, once again, because some insane white kid decides to
kill black worshipers in a Southern church, the South must be punished! Again!
Reconstruction Part II…here
we come!
They tell us now that our
flag must be destroyed, our
monuments must be destroyed, anything and everything daring to show
anything relating to the Confederacy must be banned, the stain-glassed
windows in our National Church must be removed, one of our nation’s
greatest movies, Gone
With The Wind, must be banned…and while their at it…they say the Jefferson
Memorial has to be destroyed too!
As to when the racist hatred
and bloodlust of the General Sherman and Abraham Lincoln created “genocidal” North against us Southerners
(or Native peoples, or Muslim peoples, etc.) will ever be satisfied no one
knows! After all, unlike Hitler who was
defeated, they were the winners and they haven’t stopped starting wars since
they won their first one!
And isn’t it absolutely
ironically amazing that General Robert E. Lee wrote these words on December 27,
1856: “There
are few, I believe, in this enlightened age, who will not acknowledge that
slavery as an institution is a moral and political evil.”…words,
mind you, which were replied to five years later, on March 4, 1861, on the eve
of this catastrophic Civil War, by the newly elected President Abraham Lincoln,
who in his inaugural address said: “I have no purpose, directly or
indirectly, to interfere with the institution of slavery in the States where it
exists. I believe I have no lawful right to do so, and I have no inclination to
do so.”
Barely one month later, on
April 18, 1861, President Abraham Lincoln offered General Lee the command of
all the Union armies…but when Lee learned that Lincoln intended to use these
armies to invade
the South and subjugate it to destroy once and for all States rights, Lee
simply said: “I
shall never bear arms against the Union, but it may be necessary for me to
carry a musket in the defense of my native state, Virginia, in which case I
shall not prove recreant to my duty.”
Lee made the right choice,
after all, as both he and everyone else in knew, both in the South and North, slavery was all but finished in the
And seriously, Lee reasoned,
who would actually want to serve under a President like Abraham Lincoln who
said about the black Southern peoples, both slave and free, “Our
republican system was meant for a homogeneous people. As long as blacks
continue to live with the whites they constitute a threat to the national life.
Family life may also collapse and the increase of mixed breed bastards may some
day challenge the supremacy of the white man.”
Racist
None of this makes sense.
