Critical Notice

With this Critical Notice the Sisters of Sorcha Faal are requesting your prayers for Sister Maru and her family in Mexico (read her last email, below) and for you to send her emails of support and hope.

The Sisters are also requesting urgent aid to evacuate two of the Sisters from South America back to their US refugee project where they expect to be needed in the coming weeks. Please give what you can to aid this effort.

Update 27 April 2009: Sister Remedios reports from Guatemala of an increasing number of sick children and adults showing flu-like symptoms though the government has not officially announced any cases of swine flu.

Brian!! I am so scared!!!! The very same day the Mexican President held the urgency meeting with the whole Cabinet and by interrupting the normal programming of every Mexican TV Channel (public and private) at 23:00 hours!!! to announce what they had downplayed two days before: the confirmation of an outbreak of an unknown type of influenza in Mexico

City and the Mexican state of San Luis Potosí; my eldest son had come home from school with very high fever and showing strong signs of a cold. He could not even eat. That night, after the announcement, I went in panick and I called a doctor, whom I make translations for, and he rushed to my house and checked my son, and it was just plain cold for drinking too cold water as heat is rising in Mazatlan. Thank Goodness!

But then I sort of thought of a biological attack. The surprising thing is that no tourism resort city like Mazatlan, Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta, Cancún (where most US tourists visit) has shown no signs of this disease. After the Holy Week and Easter vacation when thousands stream to all those places!! Then, this is a most well engineered target attack toward the site of the Federal power. The only thing I regret is that the Government of Felipe Calderon is the one I favor, for I have always collaborated with the PAN (National Action Party), since my early teens, for it has been the most honest and trustable party ever. They are mostly Catholic, respectful and respond to no attack with insults. They do act in favor of the people and defend free speech no matter they are the target of the attacks (with lies) by their political opponents. In short, they are the good guys. Really.

But again, I am most scared!!!!! This year (August/08 til now) it has been a terrible year for me, the worst of my life, and believe me I do not think the bad times are over for me! I worry for my children but also for my relatives who live in Mexico City, Durango, Jalisco, Baja California, Nayarit and, of course, Sinaloa.
