Russian Scientists Alarmed As African Epidemic Spreads, Death Toll Nears 3,000 As New Cases Approach 50,000

By: Sorcha Faal, and as reported to her Russian Subscribers

Russian Scientists are becoming increasingly alarmed as one of the worst cholera epidemics in World history has begun sweeping the Continent of Africa resulting in nearly 3,000 deaths, and as we can see evidenced by these reports:

As reported by the United Nations News Centre in their report titled "With toll mounting in Angolan cholera outbreak, UN sends in more health kits", and which says, "With the toll in Angola’s worst cholera outbreak in almost two decades approaching 50,000 cases and 2,000 deaths, the United Nations health agency is sending drugs, oral rehydration salts, disinfectants and chlorine to counter poor sanitation and a shortage of safe drinking water, major vectors of the disease."

As reported by the CNN News Service in their article titled "Sudan cholera outbreak kills more than 500", and which says, "More than 500 people have died in a cholera outbreak in southern Sudan, where two-thirds of the population drink unclean water, the World Health Organization said Tuesday."

“Cholera is an acute, diarrheal illness caused by infection of the intestine with the bacterium Vibrio cholerae. The infection is often mild or without symptoms, but sometimes it can be severe. Approximately one in 20 infected persons has severe disease characterized by profuse watery diarrhea, vomiting, and leg cramps. In these persons, rapid loss of body fluids leads to dehydration and shock. Without treatment, death can occur within hours.”

To the greatest concern of Russian Scientists monitoring this unprecedented outbreak is the opportunity being presented in Africa for the continuing spread of not only old diseases, but new ones, and especially the bird flu, and which is now reported in yet another African Nation, and as we can read as reported by China’s People’s Daily News Service in their article titled "Dead birds in Lusaka triggers new fear of bird flu outbreak", and which says:

"Four birds found dead in Lusaka Wednesday has triggered new fear of possible bird flu outbreak, Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) reported Thursday. It quoted a witness as saying that he has informed the case to the office concerned and asked them to take the four dead birds.

More than 40 wild birds were found dead the other day in Livingstone near the famous Victoria Falls shared by Zambia and Zimbabwe. The Zambian government is looking into the cases of bird death in the southern tourist capital for fear of an outbreak of avian flu, which has already hit eight African countries, said a senior health official Tuesday."

This troubling news becomes even more urgent when combined with the events occurring in South Africa where a flu epidemic is currently sweeping that nation, and as we can read as reported by the SABC News Service in their article titled "Flu forces SANBS to declare a red alert", and which says:

"A blood shortage alert has been declared by the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) as staff and donors have been struck down with flu, it said today. The Inland Region has a three day supply of blood and the East Coast region a one day supply."If blood collections do not drastically increase by Friday, 23 June, we will have no choice but to start cancelling non-emergency surgery.

"This is always a last resort as it means that patients who may have been waiting months for surgery will now have to wait even longer," said Ravi Reddy, the SANBS's technical and donor director. Flu hits mobile clinics hard The annual flu epidemic has affected the intake of blood from donors, and has hit staff causing some mobile clinic services to be cancelled. Mobile clinics go to companies, schools, churches, universities and special events."

These reports state that should the bird flu virus H5N1 mutate with the H2 and H3 variants currently ravaging South Africa, and combined with the weakened immune systems of a Continent being decimated by cholera, the potential exists for a rapid mutation to a full World-Wide pandemic strain of the H5 bird flu virus.
