Putin Orders Russia Military To ‘Full Alert’ As Turkey, Iran Begin Shelling Iraq, Pakistan In Crisis

By: Sorcha Faal, and as reported to her Western Subscribers

The Kremlin is reporting today that President Putin has ordered Russian Military Forces to their ‘highest’ alert status following Turkey and Iran’s shelling of the Northern Iraqi regions ahead of what is widely expected to be a massive invasion of Iraq by 250,000 Turkish Forces stationed on their border.

The Associated Press News Service also confirms that the shelling of Iraq by Turkey and Iran has begun, and as we can read as reported in their article titled "Kurds report Turkish, Iranian shelling in northern Iraq; wider conflict feared", and which says:

"Turkish artillery shelled suspected positions of Kurdish rebels based across the border in northern Iraq on Friday, according to reports. U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice warned Turkey that it risked expanding regional tensions with any “robust” move of troops into Iraq.

Turkey has been building up its forces along the border with Iraq, and its leaders are debating whether to stage a major incursion to pursue Kurdish rebels from Turkey who rest, train and resupply at bases in Iraq. Such an operation could ignite a wider conflict involving Iraqi Kurds, and draw in its NATO ally, the United States.

Rice, speaking in New York to a panel of journalists and editors from The Associated Press, said it’s “not good for anybody for a robust move across the border.” She described it as “not good for Iraq and not good for Turkey.”

The statement by Rice suggested Washington has acknowledged that Turkey might conduct limited incursions across the rugged frontier against the separatist Kurdistan Workers’ Party, also known as PKK.

Iran has also clashed with Iranian Kurd fighters who have bases in remote, mountainous areas of northern Iraq, and Iranian forces reportedly participated in the overnight shelling."

The President of Iraq's Kurdish region, Massoud Barzani, had previously rejected Turkey’s overtures to peace and responded, "We do not accept the conditions laid down to deal with the PKK [Kurdish Rebels]. We have always said that we would help Turkey if it chooses the path of dialogue and we confirm this. If Turkey's aim is war, we are not prepared to accept these conditions."

Turkey appears to be unfazed by the potential damage to its relations with the EU and US who will, undoubtedly, respond harshly to an invasion of Iraq, and as put in the words of one Western Military Advisor, "Goodbye to the US and to the EU, which Turkey seeks to become a member of, as well as goodbye to billions of dollars coming into Turkey helping the recovery of its fragile economy."

Potentially more dangerous for Turkey is the recently signed defense accord signed between the Kurds and the US Military in Iraq, and as we can read as reported by Middle East Newsline News Service:

"The autonomous northern Iraqi region of Kurdistan has signed a security cooperation accord with the U.S.-led coalition.

The accord was signed on May 30 by Kurdistan President Masoud Barzani and U.S. commanders in Irbil. The accord stipulated the handover of coalition security responsibility to the Kurdish regional government in the provinces of Dohuk, Irbil and Suleimaniya.

"The Kurdistan Regional Government was deemed ready to assume security responsibility in the region," a U.S. military statement said.

Officials said the memorandum of understanding took more than a year to draft. They said the more than 30-page agreement outlines the relationship between Kurdish security forces and the U.S.-led coalition."

To the truest aims of the United States, however, it was revealed this past year when the American Armed Forces Journal in their June, 2006, issue a map that has redrawn all of the present borders of the Middle East, including Turkey’s. (see below)

Of growing concern to Putin, also, is the deteriorating situation in Nuclear Armed Pakistan, and as we can read as reported by the American AntiWar.Com News Service:

"To the east, Pakistan's crisis looms as potentially the biggest disaster of them all, one that would give a rather sinister meaning to the prospect of a Middle East meltdown – because Pakistan, after all, possesses nukes, the only Muslim nation so endowed.

The result could well be a nuclear meltdown, with horrific consequences for the region and beyond. General Pervez Musharraf's grip on power – never all that firm to begin with – is increasingly shaky, with the nation's Muslims in open rebellion, the National Assembly in an uproar over newly-imposed restrictions on the media, and much of the countryside slipping outside the General's control. If Muslim extremists succeed in toppling the Musharraf regime, the West could find itself confronted with a nuclearized ally of al-Qaeda ensconced in Islamabad."

British sources are further reporting that Israel and Syria are now on the brink of war too, and as we can read as reported by the Scotsman News Service in their article titled "Fears of war as Israel and Syria show army might", and which says:

"Concern is growing that Israel and Syria may be heading towards war, with signs that both are preparing their armies. The preparations are being made across both sides of the ceasefire line in the Golan Heights area occupied by Israel since 1967.

Syria has increased troop numbers and brought in rocket units similar to those used by Hezbollah against Israel in last summer's war in Lebanon, according to intelligence estimates. The Syrians have also brought in new anti-aircraft guns and tanks from Russia and recently conducted a frontline exercise of troops."

The orders from President Putin to Russian Military Forces today ‘advises’ all commands to ‘be prepared’ for ‘imminent redeployment’ to ‘protect and defend the vital and strategic interests of the Motherland’.

Once cannot help, on days such as these, to wonder when, or even if, the madness of this World will end before the deaths of hundreds of millions of innocents.
